Since 1976, Mr. Miskel has represented or been consulted by various performing artists, composers, producers and personal managers in the music industry. The artists and composers have included Grace Slick, Duff McKagan,(Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) Izzy Stradlin (Guns N’ Roses), Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, Jefferson Starship, Moby Grape, Malo, Michael Carabello (Santana), Aynsley Dunbar (David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Journey, Jefferson Starship, Whitesnake), Gregg Errico (Sly & the Family Stone), David Sikes (Boston), Neil Murray (Whitesnake), and many others.
He has represented or been consulted by the managers of Journey (Herbie Herbert), Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship (Bill Thompson), Doobie Brothers (Bruce Cohn) Malo, Voices of Latin Rock (Ron Sansoe) and others. He has represented Nocturne, Inc., the number one supplier of video production services at the arena and stadium level and Muzic.com, a pioneer in the area of direct downloads of digital music.
His work as a music lawyer has mainly involved litigation to enforce contractual rights, including rights to compensation, royalty disputes, rights arising out of partnership and corporate shareholder agreements, rights to name ownership, rights to control the use of one’s name and likeness, rights of authors and issues relating to the formation and dissolution of musical groups. Mr. Miskel has also litigated numerous trademark infringement claims in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles.
